Loc Retwist and Styling in Spring, TX
Retwists, partings and styling for the locs you already have. Starting at $60 at our Kuykendahl Road salon in Spring.
What This Service Covers
This is maintenance and styling for existing locs.
If you are already wearing locs and you need the new growth twisted back down, the partings cleaned up, or the whole head styled for an occasion, that is what we do here — and $60 is where it starts.
Two things this page is not about, so nobody books the wrong appointment:
- It is not faux locs. Those are extensions wrapped over your own braided hair, worn for weeks and taken down. That is a separate service. → See faux locs in Spring, TX
- It is not butterfly locs. Same family as faux locs, distressed finish. → See butterfly locs in Spring, TX
If your locs are your own hair and they need attention, you are on the right page.
Retwist, Restyle, or Both
Most appointments are one of these three, or a combination. Tell us which when you call and we will give you the time and the price before you come in.
The Retwist
New growth at the root twisted back into the loc, parting by parting. This is the appointment that keeps locs looking intentional rather than overgrown, and it is the one most clients book on a repeating cycle.
Styling Your Locs
Updos, barrel rolls, pipe cleaner sets, braided sections, half-up styles — locs hold a shape better than almost any other hair, and a good style lasts days rather than hours.
Booked most often before a wedding, a graduation, a shoot or a holiday.
Partings and Root Work
Grids that have drifted, locs that have started to merge at the root, partings that were never even to begin with. Tidying this is slower than a straight retwist, and it is worth doing before it compounds.
A Style You Don’t See Listed?
Loc styling is nearly unlimited, and no list on a web page will cover what you have seen and want.
Bring or send a photo of the style you want and we agree the price together before we start. That is how we quote every loc styling appointment.
Call (346) 360-4881 with the photo.
What Loc Maintenance Costs at Our Spring Salon
Loc services start at $60 — the lowest starting price on our whole menu, alongside weaving.
What moves it from there:
- How much hair there is. A full head of long, dense locs takes longer than a short set, on every single task.
- How long it has been. A retwist at six weeks is a different appointment from a retwist at six months.
- Retwist only, or retwist and style. Styling is added time.
- Root work. Merged locs and drifted partings are the slowest thing we do on this service.
Call or send a photo before you book. On loc maintenance more than anywhere else, a photo of the current state of your locs is what lets us quote accurately — and we agree the figure with you before we start.

How Often Should You Retwist?
The honest answer is that it depends on your hair and how you wear it, and anyone who gives you a single number for everybody is guessing.
What is generally true: retwisting too often does more harm than leaving it too long. Every retwist puts tension on the same point at the root, and stacking that tension every two weeks is how thinning starts at the scalp. Most people are better served by a longer cycle and a neat style in between than by chasing a perfectly flat root all year.
New locs and mature locs also behave differently — a set that is still settling needs a different rhythm from one that has been locked for years.
Bring your locs in and we will tell you what cycle suits them. That conversation costs nothing.
What Happens at Your Appointment
Come with clean, dry locs unless you have arranged otherwise. Product build-up at the root makes a retwist harder and the result less durable.
Tell us what you want before we start. Retwist only, retwist and style, or root work — it changes the time and the price.
On arrival. Your stylist looks at the state of your locs, tells you what the appointment involves, and confirms the price with you. Nothing starts before you agree the number.
Caring for Locs Between Visits in Houston Humidity
- Dry them completely. This is the one that matters here. North Houston humidity plus locs that were never fully dried is how a scalp starts to smell and how mildew begins. Give them real time and real air.
- Satin at night, every night. A bonnet or a satin pillowcase. Cotton pulls lint into locs and lint does not come out.
- Go easy on heavy product. Waxes and thick creams build up inside a loc and stay there. Light and water-based holds up better in this climate.
- Do not chase every loose hair. Locs are supposed to have some fuzz. Twisting stray hairs back in constantly is how people over-manipulate a root.
When We’ll Tell You to Wait
If your scalp is irritated, flaking badly or sore, a retwist will make it worse before it makes it better. We will ask you to let it settle.
If your roots are thinning at the parting, we will say so, and we will suggest a longer cycle or lighter tension rather than tighten them again because you asked. That is not us turning away work — it is the difference between locs you keep and locs you lose.
Why Book in Spring Instead of Driving Into Houston
The locticians who come up for loc work in this area are inside Houston — Fondren Road, Westheimer, the Northwest Freeway corridor. From Spring, Klein or Tomball, that is a drive each way for an appointment you will repeat on a cycle all year.
That last part is what makes distance matter more on this service than on any other. A one-off install is worth a drive; a maintenance appointment you book six or eight times a year is not.
We are at 17907 Kuykendahl Rd, Suite 200, between Highway 249 and I-45, with parking on site. Open seven days a week from 7:00 AM, which makes a retwist before work a realistic thing to book.
Serving Spring, Klein, Tomball, The Woodlands, Champions, Cypress and Humble.
Loc Retwist and Styling: Your Questions Answered
How often should I retwist my locs? There is no single number that fits everyone — it depends on your hair type, the age of your locs and how you wear them. What is generally true is that retwisting too often is more damaging than waiting too long, because every retwist puts tension on the same point at the root, and repeating that every couple of weeks is how thinning at the scalp begins. New locs that are still settling need a different rhythm from mature locs. Bring your locs to our Spring, TX salon and we will tell you what cycle suits them.
Do dreads get longer after a retwist? They look longer, and only briefly. A retwist pulls the new growth at the root down into the loc and smooths the whole length, so the loc hangs straighter and reads longer immediately afterwards. That is a visual effect, not growth. Real length comes from your hair growing and from the loc maturing — and over-retwisting in pursuit of that stretched look works against both, because it stresses the root.
How much does a loc retwist cost near Spring, TX? Loc services at Diamond Luxury African Hair Braiding in Spring, TX start at $60, the lowest starting price on our menu. The final figure depends on how much hair there is, how long it has been since your last appointment, whether you want styling as well as a retwist, and whether the partings need work. Send a photo of your locs before you book and we will agree the price with you before the appointment begins. Call (346) 360-4881.
What should you not do with locs? Four things, in order of how often they cause real damage. Do not leave them damp — in Houston humidity, locs that never dry fully are the fastest route to a scalp problem. Do not retwist on too short a cycle; tension at the same root point, repeated, is what thins locs at the scalp. Do not use heavy waxes and thick creams, which build up inside the loc and stay there. And do not sleep on cotton — lint works into locs and does not come back out. A satin bonnet solves the last one entirely.
Can you do a loc style that is not listed on this page? Yes. Loc styling is close to unlimited and no page can list it all. Bring or send a photo of the style you want and we agree the price together before we start. Call (346) 360-4881.
