Cornrows in Spring, TX
Braided flat to the scalp, in straight lines or in a pattern — for women, men and kids. Starting at $90, the lowest entry price at our Kuykendahl Road salon, open every day from 7 AM.
What Cornrows Are — and Why Almost Every Braid Style Starts With Them
A cornrow is braided against the scalp rather than hanging from it. The braider picks up a little more hair with each pass, so the braid grows along the head and stays flat the whole way.
That flatness is the whole point. A cornrow is the only braid that holds a shape on the head — straight lines, curves, geometric patterns — because it is attached along its entire length instead of at one root.
It is also the foundation the rest of this menu is built on. Crochet braids are crocheted into a cornrow base. Weaves are sewn onto one. A full head of cornrows is the neatest possible base under a wig. When a braider says she is “cornrowing the base,” this is the service she means.
And it is the fastest protective style we install, which is why it is the lowest-priced one on the menu and the one most people book when they want something clean without a long appointment.
Choose Your Pattern
Cornrows are named by the pattern, not by the size. This is where the choice actually happens.
Bring a photo of the pattern you want. We braid it, and we agree the price together before we start. That is how this service works here — the patterns below are the ones clients ask for most, not the limit of what we do.
Straight-Back Cornrows
The classic: parallel rows running straight from the hairline to the nape. The quickest install on this page, the easiest to maintain, and the one most men and most children book.
Clean parts, no decoration, nothing to go wrong.
Feed-In and Stitch Cornrows
Feed-in means the extension hair is added gradually along the braid rather than all at once at the root. The braid starts thin at the hairline and thickens as it goes — which looks more natural and, more importantly, puts far less weight on the front of your head where hair is most fragile.
Stitch cornrows take the same idea further: each section is divided with clean, deliberate stitches so the parts read as sharp lines across the scalp. It is the more detailed of the two, and the longer appointment.
If your hairline has taken a beating from tight styles, feed-in is the version to ask for.
Patterned Cornrows
Anything that is not a straight line. Lemonade braids sweep to one side in long curved rows. Tribal braids combine thick and thin rows in a deliberate pattern, often with cuffs or beads. Curves, zig-zags, geometric parts, side partings — the braiding technique is the same throughout; the design work is what takes the time and moves the price.
This is where a photo matters most.
A Style You Don’t See Listed?
The patterns above are what clients ask for most often. They are not everything we braid.
Cornrows are a technique, not a fixed menu — if you have seen a pattern you like, we can almost certainly do it. Bring a photo, and we will tell you honestly whether it will work on your hair, how long it will take, and what it will cost before anything starts.
The same is true across the rest of our services. Plenty of styles we install every week are not written up anywhere on this site. If you cannot find what you are looking for, that is a reason to call, not a reason to look elsewhere.

Cornrows for Men
Cornrows are one of the most-requested men’s styles in the salon, and they are booked differently from women’s.
Most men come for straight-back rows, want a clean hairline, and want to be in and out. Many book on a standing schedule — cornrows loosen at the root before they look untidy anywhere else, so a regular re-braid keeps the style sharp for a job that expects you to look put together.
We braid relaxed, natural, short and long hair. If your hair is short enough that you are not sure it will hold, call and describe the length before you book a slot.
Kids’ Cornrows
Cornrows are the practical choice for school-age clients, and the reason is not cosmetic: they stay neat through a full week of recess, gym and sleep without daily re-doing.
We work at a pace and a tension a child can sit through, and we keep the parts clean enough to satisfy any dress code. Straight-back is the fastest and the most comfortable; simple patterns take longer but survive the week just as well.
Tell us when you book that the appointment is for a child, so we schedule the right amount of time and no one is rushed.
What Cornrows Cost at Our Spring Salon
Cornrows start at $90 — the lowest starting price on our menu.
Four things move it, and you hear which ones apply before we begin, never at checkout:
- Pattern. Straight-back is the quickest. Design work adds time.
- Number of rows. More rows, more parts, more time.
- Length and extensions. Adding hair changes both the time and the quote.
- Density. More hair to work with means longer.
Hair is separate. The price covers the braiding. When a style needs extension hair, that hair is not included — bring your own, or buy it here and we bill it separately. How many packs you need depends on the style and on the exact look you are going for, so there is no single number we can print — send the photo first and we will tell you what to buy.
How pattern pricing actually works here: send or bring a photo of the style you want, and we agree the price together before we start. Cornrow pricing varies more by pattern than any other service on our menu, so a starting price can only take you so far — a photo and two minutes on the phone gets you a real number.
Flat-rate once agreed. No surprise line at the end.

Cornrows or Box Braids?
Cornrows lie flat and follow the shape of your head. Box braids hang free and give you length and movement. Cornrows are faster, cheaper, and lower-maintenance; box braids last longer before they need attention and offer far more styling range once installed.
If you want something clean for a few weeks, or a base under a wig or weave, cornrows are the answer. If you want a style you will live in for a full install cycle, look at box braids.

What Happens at Your Appointment
Come prepared. Clean, detangled, completely dry hair — washed the day before, blow-dried if you can. For pattern work, bring your reference photo.
On arrival. Your braider confirms the pattern, the number of rows and the final price with you. Nothing starts before you have agreed the number.
During. Cornrows sit closest to the scalp of any style we do, which means tension is felt immediately. Say something at the first row that pulls — it is adjustable then, not afterwards.
Caring for Cornrows in Houston Humidity
Cornrows show their age at the root before anywhere else, and humidity speeds that up:
- Satin scarf or bonnet at night. The single habit that most extends a cornrow install.
- Oil the parts, not the rows. Your scalp is fully exposed in this style — that is an advantage for washing and an obligation for moisturizing.
- Wash gently, dry completely. Diluted shampoo along the parts, thorough rinse, fully dry. Exposed scalp dries faster than a full head of braids, which is one of the practical advantages of the style here.
- Watch the hairline. Frizz at the front is normal. Re-braiding the front rows every week is not — that is how edges thin.
When We’ll Tell You to Wait
Cornrows are light, but they sit directly on the scalp, and tension at the hairline is the most common way hair is lost in this style — particularly with tight straight-back rows worn continuously.
If your edges are thinning, ask for feed-in rather than a standard install: the graduated weight is measurably gentler at the front. If your edges are actively broken or your scalp is irritated, the honest answer is to wait, and we will say so in the chair.
Back-to-back cornrow installs on the same parting lines are also a known problem. Vary the pattern between appointments, and your hairline will thank you.
Why Book in Spring Instead of Driving Into Houston
Most of the salons that come back for cornrows around here are in Houston or out toward Sugar Land — a drive each way for a style that is often the quickest appointment of your month.
We are at 17907 Kuykendahl Rd, Suite 200, between the 249 and I-45, with parking on site. We open at 7 AM, earlier than most salons around here, which matters more for this service than any other: a straight-back install before work is realistic in a way that a full head of braids is not.
Cornrows: Your Questions Answered
How much do cornrows usually cost? Cornrows at Diamond Luxury African Hair Braiding in Spring, TX start at $90, the lowest starting price on the menu. The final figure depends on the pattern, the number of rows, the length, and whether extension hair is added — straight-back rows sit at the low end, and design work costs more because it takes longer. The salon prices pattern work from a photo: bring or send an image of the style you want, agree the price before the install begins, and pay that figure with no added fees at checkout.
Can you do a cornrow pattern that isn’t listed on your site? Almost always, yes. Cornrows are a technique rather than a fixed menu, and Diamond Luxury African Hair Braiding in Spring, TX installs stitch braids, lemonade braids, tribal braids, feed-in braids and custom patterns beyond those. Bring a photo of what you want and the salon will tell you whether it works on your hair, how long it takes and what it costs before starting. The same applies to other braiding services that are not written up on the site.
Are cornrows just braids? Not quite. A cornrow is braided flat against the scalp, with more hair picked up at each pass, so it stays attached along its whole length. A box braid or a twist hangs free from a single point at the root. That structural difference is why cornrows can hold patterns on the head, why they are quicker to install, and why they are used as the base underneath crochet braids and weaves.
Which lasts longer, braids or cornrows? Free-hanging braids generally last longer. Cornrows sit directly on the scalp, so new growth at the root shows sooner and the style reads as untidy earlier — even though the braiding itself is still sound. That is the trade-off for the lower price and the shorter appointment. If a long wear time is your priority, box braids or knotless braids are the better booking.
Do you braid men’s and children’s hair? Yes to both. Cornrows are one of the most-requested men’s services at the Spring, TX salon, usually straight-back and often on a standing schedule. Children’s cornrows are booked the same way — mention when you call that the appointment is for a child so the right amount of time is scheduled.
