Crochet Braids in Spring, TX

Pre-looped hair crocheted into a cornrow base. The fastest route to a full protective style on our menu, starting at $100 at our Kuykendahl Road salon in Spring.

What Crochet Braids Actually Are

Two steps, and the second one is quick.

First your own hair is cornrowed flat to the scalp. That braided base is the foundation, and it is the part that decides how the finished style sits and how long it stays neat.

Then pre-looped extension hair is pulled through those cornrows with a crochet hook and knotted in place. Nothing is braided strand by strand, which is why a crochet install takes a fraction of the time of box braids or twists.

The result reads like a full head of hair, not like a row of braids. It is the closest thing on this menu to changing your hair completely in one sitting.

Choose Your Crochet Style

Crochet hair comes pre-styled, so what you choose in the shop is essentially what you will wear. Bring the pack, or bring a photo of the look.

Curly and Wavy Crochet

Curly-and-Wavy-CrochetThe most-booked version. Loose curls or deep waves that give volume without length, and the fastest way to a big, soft style.

Good if you want the change to be obvious the day you walk out.

Straight, Bob and Long Crochet

Straight crochet hair, worn at bob length or long. Sleeker and more structured than curly, and the version that reads least like extensions when it is installed well.

Houston humidity is harder on straight crochet than on curly — worth knowing before you choose.

Crochet Locs and Twists

Straight-Bob-and-Long-Crochet-1Pre-made locs, passion twists or spring twists installed by crochet rather than by hand. You get the look of a hand-installed style in a much shorter appointment.

If you want locs specifically, compare this with our faux locs and butterfly locs pages before you book — the finish and the price are different.

A Style You Don’t See Listed?

Crochet hair exists in more textures, lengths and colors than any list could hold, and new packs appear every season. We are not limited to the three groups above.

Bring or send a photo of the style you want — or the pack you have already bought — and we agree the price together before anything starts. That applies to any crochet look, including ones that are not on this page.

Call (346) 360-4881 with the photo.

What Crochet Braids Cost at Our Spring Salon

Crochet braids start at $100.

For comparison, the going rate advertised for a crochet install in Houston sits around $150. We are not matching that number and then explaining it away — we are simply lower, on the same service, in a salon that is closer to you if you live north of the Beltway.

What moves the price from $100:

  • How much hair goes in. A full, dense install takes longer than a light one.
  • Length. Long crochet hair needs more sectioning and more care to sit right.
  • The base underneath. A simple straight-back cornrow base is quicker than a patterned one.
  • Hair is separate. The price above covers the braiding. The hair itself is not included — bring your own packs, or buy them here and we bill them separately.

How much hair will you need? That depends on the style and on the exact look you are going for, so there is no single number we can print. Send us the photo before you buy anything and we will tell you how many packs to get and which texture suits the style.

The starting price is a starting point, not the whole answer. Send a photo of the style you want and we agree the figure before we begin. Flat-rate once agreed.

Crochet Braids or Box Braids?

The honest comparison, because these two get weighed against each other more than any other pair on our menu.

What Happens at Your Appointment

Come prepared. Clean, detangled, completely dry hair. Washed the day before is ideal — the cornrow base goes in flatter on dry hair.

Bring your hair, or ask first. If you have already bought your crochet packs, bring them. If you have not, call before you shop so you buy the right amount for the length and density you want.

On arrival. Your braider looks at the photo, checks what you have brought, and confirms the pattern of the base and the final price with you. Nothing starts before you agree the number.

Caring for Crochet Braids in Houston Humidity

The base matters more than the hair on top — that is the part most guides get wrong.

  • Wash the scalp, not the pack. Diluted shampoo along the parts of the cornrow base, rinsed carefully. Soaking the crochet hair itself is what shortens the style’s life.
  • Dry the base properly. Trapped damp at the scalp under a dense install is the one real risk with crochet. Give it time, and use cool air if you have it.
  • Satin bonnet at night. Curly crochet hair tangles against cotton faster than your own hair does.
  • Straight crochet frizzes first here. North Houston humidity lifts straight hair before it touches curly textures. If you want the longest stretch between visits in summer, choose a curly or textured pack.

When We’ll Tell You to Wait

Crochet is one of the gentler installs we offer, because the weight sits on a braided base rather than on individual strands at the follicle. That is genuinely kinder to fragile edges than most extension styles.

The limits are still real. If your scalp is irritated or broken, wait. And if your own hair is too short to hold a cornrow base, crochet is not the answer yet — we will tell you that rather than braid a base that will not hold.

Why Book in Spring Instead of Driving Into Houston

Diamond Luxury African Hair Braiding SalonMost of the salons that come up for crochet in this area are inside Houston — Westheimer, Dairy Ashford, Cherry Park, Bellaire. One sits out at Humble, east of us. From Spring, Klein or Tomball, all of them mean a drive each way.

Crochet is the shortest appointment on our menu. Spending more time in the car than in the chair makes very little sense for this service in particular.

We are at 17907 Kuykendahl Rd, Suite 200, between the 249 and I-45, with parking on site. Open seven days a week from 7:00 AM.

Crochet Braids: Your Questions Answered

How much should you pay for crochet braids? Crochet braids at Diamond Luxury African Hair Braiding in Spring, TX start at $100. Advertised prices for a crochet install around Houston are commonly near $150, so our starting point sits below the local market for a comparable service. The final figure depends on the density of the install, the length of the hair and how detailed the cornrow base is. The hair itself is not included in that price — you can bring your own packs or buy them at the salon, billed separately. We agree the number with you from a photo before the appointment begins.

Do I need to bring my own crochet hair, and how many packs? Either works: bring your own packs, or buy them at the salon. The hair is not included in the price of the install at our Spring, TX salon — it is billed separately whichever way you get it. How many packs you need depends on the style and on how full you want the finished head, so there is no number that fits every install. Call (346) 360-4881 or send a photo before you shop and we will tell you how much to buy and which pack suits the look you are after.

Where can I get crochet braids done near Spring, TX? Diamond Luxury African Hair Braiding installs crochet braids at 17907 Kuykendahl Rd, Suite 200, Spring, TX 77379, between Highway 249 and I-45. Most salons offering crochet in this area are inside Houston, which means a drive from Spring, Klein, Tomball or The Woodlands. We are open seven days a week from 7:00 AM. Call (346) 360-4881 to book.

What are the downsides of crochet braids? Two, and both are manageable. The first is drying: a dense crochet install traps moisture at the scalp, so the braided base underneath has to be dried properly after every wash. The second is that the style is only as good as the base — if the cornrows underneath are loose or uneven, the crochet hair will shift and the install will look tired early. Neither is a reason to avoid crochet; both are reasons to have the base braided by someone who does it daily.

Can you shower with crochet hair? Yes, but wash the scalp rather than the hair on top. Use diluted shampoo along the parts of the cornrow base, rinse carefully, and then dry the base thoroughly — trapped damp underneath a dense install is the main thing that shortens the life of the style. Repeatedly soaking the crochet hair itself will also loosen the curl pattern of the pack faster than anything else you do to it.

Can you install a crochet style that is not shown on this page? Yes. Crochet hair comes in more textures, lengths and colors than any page could list, and we are not limited to what is shown here. Bring or send a photo of the style you want, or the pack you have already bought, and we agree the price together before the install begins. Call (346) 360-4881.
